ABOUT ERIK LJUNG
Erik Ljung is a Swedish director/producer/screenwriter, musician and songwriter.
Ljung has played keyboard in the music group “Flincka Fingrar” with artist/actor/director Thorsten Flinck, and Ljung writes his own music; manly focusing on film music.
In 1999 he played the role of "Fabian" in the award winning film "Lervik" including David Dencik and Peter Wahlbeck in the roles.
Erik Ljung also had a minor role in the TV series “Pusselbitar”, 2001, on Swedish Television (SVT).
He has directed several theater performances on behalf of the City of Stockholm's "Kulturförvaltningen" (Culture Administration).
In 2000 he played the lead in his own play "A part of me" which received a lot of positive response and attention.
This attention led him to start writing more plays that was directed by others.
In 2006 though, Erik Ljung was back to directing the self-written play “Loneliness is not so beautiful (as it sometimes may seem)” with famous TV host Pontus Gårdinger and actress Amanda Renberg (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1483697/?ref_=tt_cl_t1) in the roles
In 2006, Ljung also directed TV4 AB’s TV show “Moviestar”
a so-called IDOL for actors.
In 2007 Erik Ljung pitched and sold the options right for a screenplay. This screenplay in now under development and co-produced by Erik Ljung.
2010 Ljung directed “Den Starkare" by August Strindberg at the "Kungliga Biblioteket” in Stockholm. Guldbagge* nominee Michelle Meadows and debutant Carlos Decker played the roles. During the play August Strindberg’s original manuscript of “Den Starkare” was shown to the public for the first time ever.
* Guldbagge is Sweden’s equivalent of the Academy Award.
2011, in February, Ljung directed Pariah (or Paria) by August Strindberg at Liljevalchs in Stockholm. Liljevalchs is Scandinavia's oldest art hall. The play put focus on female strength and was a cross between theater, art and design. The main characters were played by famous TV personality Malou von Sivers and actress Moa Gammel. Blues legend Bill Öhrstrom also had an important role as thunder. Designer Bea Szenfeld did costume design.
2011 “The Man And The incognito” premiered at the “Kungliga Biblioteket” in Stockholm . Ljung directed and was also on stage in the lead role for the first time in ten years. Bill Öhrström and Katarina Kvist played the other roles. The stage design was made by pop artist Johnny Acosta (www.popart.eu). The show was based on Vladimir Mayakovsky’s “A Cloud in Trousers”.
2013-2016 Erik Ljung has worked a lot with writing music as well as writing a new (2016) screenplay.
Erik Ljung decided early that he would only direct plays that was his own ideas or ones he felt deeply for. This had led to about one play every second year. Erik Ljung is still directing but has focused more to write screenplays and working as a producer.
